Email merge programs are software programs that run from your computer and are simple to understand and operate. They allow you to write one follow-up or sales letter and deliver that letter, personalized in the Subject Line and in the Body of the email so that it will seem to have been written for each person who receives it.
You simply write the email as usual. Only one copy is needed.
Second, you create a list of names and email addresses for each of the people that you want the message delivered to. You can have different lists, such as prospect, affiliate, MIQ, PTL or anything that your situation may require.
Then, depending on the particular email merge program that you may be using, you select the email and you select the list to be sent to and send the one copy which is personalized with each persons, name and email address.

Autoresponders are special programs that usually reside on someone else's web server. It's function is to receive an email from someone, read the email to determine the name and email address of the sender and to deliver to them a certain predetermined document, all without your even knowing that the request has been made.

How would I use an autoresponder? Well, let's say that that you had some basic information about SFI that you wanted to make available to others. You create the letter and put it on the web server where the autoresponder resides. You perform a little setup to tell the autoresponder that whenever it receives an email to send this letter from you to the person requesting it. You can create a link in an ezine advertisement, in an offline print media, like your local county newspaper, a website or magazine.
All that is required is to say something to the effect of:

In order to get the information all the person has to do is to click on the link if it is on a webpage or in an ezine advertisement. That will cause your email program to start and to load this address into the to block and your from information. Just click send and that's it. In a few minutes you should receive the report.

Sequential mailers are another form of email software which usually reside on a webserver. They are setup to deliver a series of pre-written emails at predetermined time intervals. It will send email 1 on day 1 and email 2 on, for instance, day 3 and email 3 on day 5.
Since it has been shown that most people don't buy until they have seen the offer several times, then it makes perfect sense to arrange a series of informative sales offers which you schedule to be delivered to a list that you create or to a list which can be subscribed to by any interested party.
